What happens after I contact a disability support provider?

Life & Support · Access · Last reviewed 14 October 2026

Contacting a new provider does not need to mean committing to a service immediately. A good first conversation should help you work out whether the provider understands what you need and whether the arrangement feels right.

At Access, the process is intended to be straightforward: tell us what you’re looking for; we listen and clarify your goals, routines and preferences; we confirm whether we can provide the support, including whether your plan is self-managed or plan-managed; and, if you choose to proceed, we complete onboarding and a service agreement before support begins.

The NDIS describes a service agreement as an agreement between you and your provider that sets out what you have agreed to about your NDIS supports. It recommends creating one when you start working with a new provider.

You can involve a family member, carer, advocate or other person you trust if you want them involved. You also do not need to have every detail worked out before making contact.
