What is a service agreement?

NDIS Explained · Access · Last reviewed 14 October 2026

The NDIS describes a service agreement as an agreement between you and your provider. It sets out what you and your provider have agreed to about your NDIS supports. It is different from your NDIS plan, and it is not the same as a service booking.

According to the NDIS, a service agreement should outline how your providers will help you with your support needs. Service agreements are created to protect you: they give you and your provider a shared understanding of your rights and responsibilities, and can include what to do if something goes wrong.

The NDIS says a good service agreement includes who it is for, what supports are being provided and how, how much they cost, how the provider gets paid, important dates and reviews, both parties’ rights and responsibilities, and what to do when you disagree or something goes wrong.

At Access, we’ll go through a service agreement with you before support begins, and you’re welcome to involve someone you trust.
